Do we land where we take off?
Normally no. A balloon will float along with the flow of the air mass, which normally goes mostly one direction. Like a river, the air meanders through the valley’s topography forcing an ebb and flow of which the balloon is a part. The air movement can change direction, but it is rare for the air flow to change direction in way that would take the balloon back to where it was launched.
